Pear/Pair Stories:Maximising Comparability in Contrastive Interlanguage Analysis

This paper attempts to discuss the corpus approach to investigating the influence of EFL learners' mother tongue on their spoken English narrative discourse,on both conceptual and linguistic dimensions.To capture the cross-linguistic influence,the proposed study collected some 500 hundred Chinese EFL learners' spoken narratives based on the ‘Pear Film' (Chafe 1980) videoclip.Each student produced a spoken English pear story,a spoken Chinese story,and a writtenEnglish pear story successively.
