ISO 178:2010 specifies a method for determining the flexural properties of rigid and semi-rigid plastics under defined conditions. A standard test specimen is defined, but parameters are included for alternative specimen sizes for use where appropriate. A range of test speeds is included. The method is used to investigate the flexural behaviour of the test specimens and to determine the flexural strength, flexural modulus and other aspects of the flexural stress/strain relationship under the conditions defined. It applies to a freely supported beam, loaded at midspan (three-point loading test). The method is suitable for use with the following range of materials: thermoplastic moulding, extrusion and casting materials, including filled and reinforced compounds in addition to unfilled types; rigid thermoplastics sheets; thermosetting moulding materials, including filled and reinforced compounds; thermosetting sheets. ISO 178:2010 applies to fibre-reinforced compounds with fibre lengths less than or equal to 7,5 mm prior to processing. For long-fibre-reinforced materials (laminates) with fibre lengths greater than 7,5 mm, see ISO 14125. The method is not normally suitable for use with rigid cellular materials or sandwich structures containing cellular material. In such cases, ISO 1209?1 and/or ISO 1209?2 can be used. Contrary to the previous editions of this International Standard, this edition specifies two methods, method A and method B. Method A is identical to the method in previous editions of this International Standard, i.e. it uses a strain rate of 1 %/min throughout the test. Method B uses two different strain rates: 1 %/min for the determination of the flexural modulus and 5 %/min or 50 %/min, depending on the ductility of the material, for the determination of the remainder of the flexural stress-strain curve.

ISO 11337:2010 specifies a method for determining epsilon?caprolactam and omega?laurolactam in polyamides by gas chromatography. It is suitable particularly for the determination of epsilon?caprolactam in polyamide 6 and omega?laurolactam in polyamide 12. Bearing in mind that gas chromatography offers a wide range of possible conditions, the method specified is that shown to have been suitable in practice. Two variants of the basic method are specified: Method A is an extraction method with boiling methanol, and the extract is injected into a gas chromatograph. Method B is a method using a solvent, and the solution is injected into a gas chromatograph.

ISO 14531-3:2010 specifies the physical properties and mechanical-performance requirements for full-end-load-resistant mechanical fittings for use in the connection of crosslinked polyethylene (PE?X) pipes conforming to ISO 14531?1 and in the construction of transition assemblies for joining PE?X pipes to metal pipes having plain spigot, screw thread, compression socket and flange terminations. In addition, it lays down dimensional requirements and specifies some general material properties (including chemical resistance) together with a classification scheme for PE?X fitting materials produced in the form of pipe. ISO 14531-3:2010, when used in conjunction with the other parts of ISO 14531, provides the basis for the design, manufacture and installation of PE?X piping systems (PE?X pipes, PE?X fusion fittings and mechanical fittings) for the supply of category D and category E hydrocarbon-based fuels.

ISO 15064:2010 specifies methods for the measurement of toluene-2,6?diisocyanate in mixtures of the 2,4- and 2,6?isomers. Two methods based on infrared spectroscopy are required to give accurate results over a broad range of isomer concentrations. Method A is applicable to TDI samples containing 5 % to 95 % of the 2,6?isomer. Method B is applicable to TDI samples containing 0 % to 5 % of the 2,6?isomer. Both methods are based on the quantitative measurement of absorption bands arising from out-of-plane C–H deformation vibrations of the aromatic ring at 810 cm–1 and 782 cm–1.

It is, in general, suitable for all plastics in the form of standard test specimens, and finished articles or parts thereof. It considers separately methods for the determination of change in mass, change in dimensions and appearance, change in physical properties.
